An employee of a contactor working for Manitoba Hydro suffered a fatal injury on Wednesday near the Northern community of Gilliam.

The accident occurred at Marshaling Yard 45 kilometers from Gilliam near the limestone generating station.

The worker was later transported to the hospital where he succumb to his injuries.

Manitoba Hydro CEO Kelvin Shepherd sends his thoughts and condolences to the workers family and says the incident was very sad and tragic.

Representatives from the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health and the RCMP are investigating.
