Evan Herman signs WHL Contract

Local Evan Herman continues to move forward in his hockey career. Herman yesterday signed a WHL Standard Players Agreement with the Prince Albert Raiders.

 

Herman who's appeared in a handful of OCN Blizzard games went in the third round of the WHL Bantam draft in 2017 and has recorded 13 goals and 13 assists with Rink Hockey Academy Prep of the CSSHL.

Wayne Young Memorial Tournament coming next month

The Wayne Young Memorial Tournament at the GLMC will be the weekend of March 15th-17th. The tournament is split with a Rec division and a 40+ division with cash prizes for the top teams. 1st place will win $3000, 2nd place is $1500 with 3rd taking home $1000. The entry fee is $500.

OCN Storm end regular season this weekend

The OCN Storm will close of their regular season this weekend with a showcase in Peguis. Tomorrow they'll be in action twice, starting at noon taking on Norway House then will faceoff against the Cross Lake Islanders at 6. Sunday afternoon will the Storms last game before the postseason as they take on Peguis at 2pm.

World Championship Dog Sled Races results

Official results are now up for the 2019 World Championship Dog Races. Anny Malo was the winner of the World and Manitoba Championship with a total time of 6 hours and 20 minutes. Cassidy Hall grabbed first place for the Jack McPhail Memorial 6 dog race with a total time of 1 hour and 28 minutes and Elliot Rivest was the Junior Races winner with a time of 46 minutes and 40 seconds.

OCN Blizzard on 4 final games

The OCN Blizzard hit the road today for their 2nd to last road trip and 4th last game of the season. Tonight they stop in Swan Valley for a final matchup against the Stampeders. It's the only game of the week,

 

The Blizzard will close of their season next week with 3 games in hand. Tuesday they head to Dauphin to take on the Kings and wrap it all up with a 2 game home series against the Winnipeg Blues.

 

All 4 games will be broadcasted on 102.9 CJAR

 

Wednesday Feb 20th @ Swan - 7:30pm
Tuesday Feb 26th @ Dauphin - 7:30pm

Friday March 1st vs Winnipeg - 7pm
Saturday March 2nd vs Winnipeg - 7pm

MBCI Spartans continue to stay strong

The MBCI Spartans went 3-1 this past weekend at the Sturgeon Heights AAAA Invitational. The Spartans continue to maintain a strong season riding an amazing 20-2 record on the season and gaining strength moving towards zones. 

 

Brett Marlow was given Player of the Game against the Hawks. Marlow hit a near buzzer beater to advance the Spartans to the Consolation Final that they also won 91-76.

OCN Blizzard Trappers game @ Roy H Johnston Arena

The OCN Blizzard will see action at the Roy H Johnston Arena this Friday as they host the Waywayseecappo Wolverines during Trappers.

 

The Blizzard will be sporting their Trappers jerseys that are being auctioned off until the end of the 2nd peroid intermission. Puckdrop at the Roy H will be at 7pm.

 

Bids for the jerseys are currently being taken at Paperworks Plus in the Otineka Mall. Bid updates can be found on the OCN Blizzard's Facebook page.

OCN Storm back in action this weekend at home

The OCN Storm came back in Junior B action getting swept by the Peguis Juniors. This weekend they'll be looking to bounce back as they take on Peguis again this weekend at home on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. 

 

Puckdrop on Saturday will be at 8:00pm with Sundays game kicking off at 2:30pm

 

Tickets are $8 with kids under 5 and elders being free

Bantam Huskies and Pas/OCN RCMP 1st annual Game for Cause

The 1st annual Game for Cause will take place Saturday February 23rd at the Roy H Johnston arena. The game will feature the Huskies Bantam going against The Pas & OCN RCMP. Admission to the game will be by donation with all proceeds going towards to The Pas Animal Shelter.

 

Player introductions will begin at 2:45 in the afternoon with puckdrop at 3.

MBCI Spartans Basketball teams continue to heat up

MBCI's Junior Varsity teams saw great success over the weekend. The junior boys came in 1st on the consolations side and the girls played amazing and improved immensely.

 

The junior boy’s basketball team is heading to Carman this weekend with the senior boy’s basketball team going to Portage. 

The junior girls team is travelling to Flin Flon for exhibition games on Saturday.

The Pas Huskies Grub Box Tournament

The Pas Huskies are hosting the Grub Box Tournament this weekend with 17 teams taking place coming from various towns including Flin Flon, Thompson, Dauphin and Hudson Bay. Both the Huskies A and AA team will see action over the weekend with the Roy H Johnston Arena and GLMC in use.

 

The Huskies A team kicks it all off this morning at 11 against the Flin Flon A team at the Roy H Johnston Arena. The Huskies AA team will play right after against the Flin Flon AA team at 12:30.

 

The Round Robin style tournament will continue throughout today and Saturday with the finals on Sunday.

OCN Blizzard begin 3 game homestand

The OCN Blizzad begin a 3 game homestand starting tonight with the Portgae Terriers at the GLMC. The Terriers are still the only team in the MJHL who have punched their ticket to the playoffs. 

 

Saturday and Sunday the Virden Oil Caps will be in OCN for hockey action. The Oil Caps sit 4th in the standings with 57 points.

 

With the now only a handful of games remaining on the season, the Blizzard find themselves in a hole still a few points behind of a playoff position.
