The Town of The Pas is looking to secure funding for a new fire suppression system at the Sam Waller Museum.
A report to council says the museum’s current water-based system needs to be replaced with a clean-agent system to better protect its irreplaceable collections, including Indigenous cultural materials.
The project is estimated to cost 208-thousand dollars.
Council is being asked to designate up to 110-thousand dollars from the Town’s Canada Community-Building Fund allocation as its contribution, while also applying for funding through several provincial and federal grant programs.
The report says the current system continues to put museum artifacts at risk.
