RCMP Shooting Update

In the early morning of December 19th RCMP in The Pas received information that a man wanted about a shooting that had taken place on the 15th had re-entered the same property on Cathedral Avenue.

 

Officers attended to the area and with the assistance of police dog services were able to contain the apartment.

 

Emergency response teams then entered the residence and arrested the suspect without incident.

 

Darcy Campbell, who was wanted in relation to that shooting was remanded into custody on charges including assault and several firearms charges.

 

That investigation is ongoing.

Christmas Karaoke Contest

Starting today a huge co-ed karaoke contest will take place at the eagles nest dining room and lounge in the Aseneskak Casino.

 

The Contest is open to all armatures 18 and older and will run tonight, tomorrow, and wrap up with a grand finale on Saturday.

 

The top five singers in both the male and female categories will move on to the finals to compete for $300, $200, and $100.

 

There will also be prizes for both the fan favourite female and male performers.

 

The contest will start at 9 pm on all three nights.

Thompson Missing Person

Last Friday Thompson RCMP Received a report of a missing 36-yearold from Thompson located at McGill Place.

 

Nadine Colomb was last seen in the evening on the 12th indicating that she was going to be on a bus headed FOR Winnipeg.

 

Officers have checked with bus services in Thompson and no records were located that may indicate that she left the city, it is believed that she is still in the Thompson area.

 

Colomb is described as 5 foot 5 inches, and 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Car Jacking in the OCN

Manitoba First Nations Police are requesting assistance locating a carjacking suspect in the OCN Community.

 

It was reported that the suspect used a firearm during the carjacking.

 

Police found the vehicle abandoned in a snow bank on Kichemaskanow on November 27th.

 

The Vehicle was found to have been damaged by a gunshot.

 

Police learned that 2 suspects requested a ride before one of them produced a firearm and demanded the victim’s belongings and vehicle.

 

One of the suspects discharged the firearm in the vehicle before the victim was able to flee.

 

MFNPS has identified 2 suspects, Jewel Jayden Wilson McNabb,  25-years-old from Moose Lake was arrested and has been remanded into custody.

 

Police are still looking for David William Campbell, 20-years-old from Moose Lake; he is wanted on various offences.

 

The suspect is believed to be in The Pas, OCN, or Moose Lake areas and is presumed to be dangerous, he should not be approached and instead, MFNPS should be contacted if you have information on his whereabouts.

Town of The Pas Update

The RCMP in The Pas has been busy over the last few weeks as local crews have worked to protect the community.

 

The town of The Pas relies on information from the RCMP.

 

The town has asked the RCMP and the OCN chief and council to be a bit more forthcoming with information being shared.

 

Any information the town has will be shared through the Town of The Pas Facebook page and online at townofthepas.ca.

 

The town is also hosting a virtual meeting with the minister of transportation and infrastructure to address the work done on Fischer Avenue.

 

The mayor and council also wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday and remind you that the next meeting will take place in the New Year on January 13th.

Shooting in The Pas

Sunday morning RCMP in The Pas received information about a shooting that had taken place at an apartment on Cathedral Avenue in the Pas.

 

When officers arrived on scene they found a 42-year-old male in the stairwell suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body, witnesses reported 2 male suspects fleeing the scene.

 

The victim was life-flighted to Winnipeg where he remains in stable condition awaiting further treatment.

 

RCMP in The Pas has issued an arrest warrant for Darcy Campbell, 26 of MCN, who has been charged with various offences including aggravated assault and discharge of firearm with intent.

Kelsey Learning Center Programming

The Kelsey Learning Center is hosting free computer classes through Tech MB.

 

The courses are free and run for two weeks at a time in the evenings, Monday through Friday, from 6 to 9 p.m. They include an introduction to computers, Google tools, Microsoft Word, Teams, Zoom, Excel, presentation tools, and job search skills.

 

Classes will start on January 6th and run until the end of March.

 

Intake is also currently going on for the second semester for adults looking to upgrade high school courses or high school diplomas, and English as a second language courses running weekly in the evenings.

Chemawawin RCMP Investigate Assault

Chemawawin RCMP is investigating an Aggravated assault that took place over the weekend.

 

Saturday afternoon they got the call about a male being treated for injuries at the nursing station.

 

When officers arrived they found that the 25-year-old male had been stabbed in the chest.

 

He had been assaulted at a residence on Frankway Drive in the Community of Chemawawin.

 

Officers arrested the suspect a 20-year-old male known to the victim without any incident, he has been charged with Aggravated Assault and was released with a court date.

Norman Wild Program

Hockey opportunities for Girls in the community have been growing over the years.

 

The Norman Wild female hockey team representing Northern Manitoba is on a 3 game-win streak to start the season.

 

The Wild will be playing in The Pas on January 18th and 19th to play the Pembina Valley Hawks.

 

On January 25th they will be in Flin Flon to face off against the Yellow Head Chiefs.

 

There will also be games in Thompson.

 

Jerome Conaty says that there are challenges especially when it comes to playing teams from the southern parts of the province, and the limited number of options, but the girls have been making huge strides thanks to the program.

Christmas Concerts

The Local Schools are gearing up for Christmas Concerts happening this week and next.

 

The MBCI’s concert will run today at 7 pm in the school Gymnasium, a collection will be taken at the door and there will be performances from various bands.

 

The Ecole Opasquias Charlie Brown Christmas Concert will run on Thursday the 12th with showings at 1:30 and 6:30 pm.

 

Next week, the Kelsey Community Schools concert will take place on Tuesday, December 17th, and the Scott Batemans will happen on Wednesday, December 18th.

RCMP Shooting in The Pas

Early Tuesday morning RCMP in The Pas responded to a report of shots fired on Hone Street in The Pas.

 

When officers arrived they were advised that a residence had been hit multiple times but no injuries were reported.

 

Witnesses in the area reported seeing two males, wearing all black fleeing from the scene in a black Dodge Ram pickup truck described as being a 2015 to 19 model.

 

Later in the afternoon the OCN detachment and the MFNPS received a report of a robbery where a 35-year-old male from Flin Flon was shot.

 

The victim was transported to hospital and remains in stable condition.

 

The suspects matched the same description and the incidents are not believed to be random as the suspects and victims are possibly known to each other.

Jordan's Principle Grand Opening

Jordan’s Principle in The Pas is celebrating a milestone with a huge grand opening at their new location on Edwards Avenue.

 

The program offers 24/7 access to services to First Nations children ensuring they have access to support, services, and a wide range of health, social, and educational resources.

 

Jordan’s Principle in The Pas opened in 2016 with just 1 employee and has since grown to nearly half a dozen supporting children in the community.

 

The Number to reach Jordan’s Principle at their new location on Edwards Avenue inside the old home hardware location is 204-627-1500.

 

Food and drinks will be served at the grand opening this Friday from 12 to 3 p.m.

 

Prizes will be won, and Christmas hampers will be handed out to Jordan’s Principle off-reserve clients.

The Pas Regional Library Events

Upcoming events at The Pas Regional Library will include crafting, movie night, and tea.

 

The tea and Christmas stories will be running next week on the 13th at the library annex from 7 to 8:30pm, tickets are 5 dollars and the event is for the ages 17 plus.

 

From the 16th to the 20th  family crafting will be happening every day from 10am to 6pm and familys are welcome to drop in at any time during that period.

 

Christmas movie night is coming up on December 21st and the film being featured is Rise of the Guardians, the movie will start at 1:15 and there will be snacks and drinks available.

Community Choir Christmas Concert

The Pas Community Choir is hosting their annual Christmas concert this weekend.

 

The show will take place at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral.

 

Tickets are at the pas regional library and will be available at the door; the cost is 10 dollars for adults, 5 dollars for children, and 5 and under are free.

 

Family packages are available that cost 20 dollars and include 2 adult and 2 children’s passes.

Arts and Crafts Shows This Weekend

With post offices still closed and shopping options limited, this weekend will be a great one to get out in the community to check out local arts, crafts, and bake sales going on with events running at the Christ Church, the Westminster United, the Wanless Community hall, and at the UCN.

At the Westminster from 10 am to 3 pm, a booth will be set up, and there will be a variety of Christmas crafts, and gently used items.

Goodies will be set up at the Wanless community hall from 11 am to 4 pm

The Christ Churches tea and bake sale will run from 10 am to 4 pm, and raffles and baked goods will be set up to raise funds for hall renovations.

At the UCN the deck the halls arts and crafts sale will be set up from 10 am till 3 pm in the gym, the UCN Book store will be open and selling promotional items, bags, clothes, and jewelry at 15 percent off.

Grab your goodies before heading to the Festival of Trees and Santa Claus parade.

School Christmas Stores

The Kelsey Community School and Ecole Opasquia are both still accepting donations for their Christmas stores and this is the last week to get donations in.

 

There is still a need for gifts, gift wrap, and volunteers to help wrap all the presents.

 

The stores will then be set up at the schools giving the children a chance to purchase gifts for loved ones for only 25 cents.

 

Children will each get to search the stores for goodies and if there are enough gifts there may be opportunities for a second and even third pass.

 

You can call the schools or drop of donations this week from 9 am to 4 pm.

Semi-Lockdown in the OCN

Due to a recent rise in crime in the OCN community, the Chief and Council have issued a semi-lockdown effective immediately.

 

Concerns raised by community members about questionable individuals entering the community in the early morning along with statistical data on crime rates, sometimes violent and serious is the reason.

 

Security will be set up at checkpoints in the community between 2 am and 6 am screening individuals coming in and requesting you state your reason for entering.

 

For individuals breaching the lockdown penalties will be applied.

 

For employed residents for a first-time offence, a 100-dollar fine will be applied, and social services from OCN will be issued purchase orders instead of cheques.

 

Second-time offences for all residences will require an immediate meeting with the Chief and Council.

 

The lockdown is being done with the best interests of the community in mind, to keep the community safe from gang violence, drugs, impaired driving, assaults, and more.

 

The Lockdown was issued on November 30th and will run till February 28th.

Festival of Trees

The Festival of Trees is coming up this weekend at the Ecole Opasquia School and there will be an opportunity to view the displays in the afternoon and evening.

 

The first event running from 11 am to 2 pm is open to everyone and you’ll want to come early to register for pictures with Santa.

 

Gingerbread houses and trees set up by local organizations, groups, and individuals will be judged in various categories.

 

There will also be children’s games and activities set up.

 

There is still time to register a display for the Festival of Trees, Email Jen, at J Little at ksd.mb.ca.
