Phase 2 of the Winton Pool's Reopening Announced

Phase 2 of the re-opening of The Winton Pool begins Tuesday April 6th!

Phase two will reintroduce the Roadrunners swim club along with time for Joe A Ross school throughout the week.

 

Aquasizes, Aqua Arthritis and Adult lap swim times will be changed around. Aquasizes will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and Aqua Arthritis on Friday mornings.

 

 

swimmers must pre-register for any programs before heading to the pool.

Victoria Wins Good Deeds Cup

Congratulations to the Victoria under 13 Admirals on being awarded the 2020 Good Deeds Cup on behalf of Chevrolet.

 

This has been the 5th year that Chevrolet has given minor hockey teams from right across the country to make a difference in their community and raise money for a local charity.

 

With Covid,  it was a little different this year where teams were asked to come up with ideas on where to donate money to.

 

The Admirals have been awarded $100,000.00 to support the Children's Health Foundation of Vancouver Island.

 

The under 11 AA Thompson King Miners represented Northern Manitoba and were looking to donate the $100.000.00 to the Thompson Aquatic Centre to get a new pool.

Winton Pool Reopening in Time for Spring Break

The Kelsey Rec and Wellness centre will be re opening the Winton Pool just in time for spring break!

 

Phase one of reopening begins March 29th and will include the return of programs like Aqua Arthritis, Aquasizes, Lap Swim and private rentals.

All programs must be pre booked by calling the rec centre at 204-627-1134.

 

Phase two of the Winton Pool’s reopening plan will begin April 6th with more programs being reintroduced that will be announced closer to the date.

Rise and Shine Cardio Back at the Kelsey Rec and Wellness Centre

Rise and shine cardio is back at the Kelsey Rec and Wellness Centre!

 

Members can head to the rec centre bright and early every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:15-6:45 AM to participate. there are only 10 spots available per day and members must pre book their time by calling 204-627-1134.

The Jimmy Jackfish Ice Fishing Derby Was A Success

The Jimmy Jackfish Ice Fishing Derby has come to a close just in time for the spring thaw.

 

Al McLauchlan, an organizer of the fishing derby said thanks to the fish donkey app the Derby was a huge success given the circumstances. The app allowed fishers to participate during a 14 day period anywhere in northern Manitoba.

 

The winner caught a northern pike at 48 inches long in the Flin Flon area.

Dauphin Kings Alumni Celebrating Huge Milestone With the NHL

Dauphin King’s Alumni Barry Trotz reached an incredible milestone last night after coaching his 1,700th game in the NHL!

 

Barry is only the third coach in NHL history to pass that milestone, following behind Joel Quenneville at 1,730 games and Scotty Bowman, who's coached 2,141 games.

 

Barry began his coaching career in 1984 with The University of Manitoba and  then the Dauphin Kings the following season.

 

His career with the NHL began in 1997 with the Nashville Predators, followed by The Washington Capitals and New York Islanders. Barry won the Stanley Cup in 2018 while coaching the Capitals.

Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose Celebrating Gender Equality Month

The Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose are celebrating Gender Equality Month by sharing stories of successful women in sports.

 

The campaign will feature a wide variety of stories from women on how they created a career in sports and the roles they play in shaping hockey. The Panel will include three time Olympic hockey gold medalist Jennifer Botterill, Sarah Zacharias, Head Coach and Director of Hockey at Balmoral Hall School and more.

 

The panel will be streamed virtually Thursday March 25th and is free to attend. You can register at WinnipegJets.com/GenderEquality Participants will have the opportunity to submit questions and are automatically entered to win a Winnipeg Jets Aviator Jersey.

Legendary Hockey Dad Walter Gretzky Has Passed Away.

Walter Gretzky, the ultimate Canadian hockey dad who taught and nurtured the Great One has died at the age of 82.

 

The father of Wayne Gretzky became a name himself, a constant in Wayne's world.

 

As Wayne's star ascended, Walter remained a blue-collar symbol of a devoted hockey parent in a country filled with them. Wayne confirmed his father's death last night with a social media post.

OCN Blizzard Player Signs to University Team

OCN Blizzard Defencemen Cole Haukaus has commited to play with the University of Jamestown Jimmies next season! Haukaus played with the Blizzard during the 2018-19 and 2019-2020 regular seasons, scoring 5 goals and 22 assists.

MJHL Announces Prospect Camp

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) has announced  the 5th annual MJHL Prospect Development Camp will take place in Winnipeg at the Seven Oaks Arena Complex from July 14-18.

 

The invite only camp is geared toward prospects born in 2004-2005 eligible to play in the upcoming 2021-2022 season.

 

“The MJHL Prospect Development Camp provides the next generation of MJHL Players with the knowledge and resources to be successful both on and off the ice, an experience of what playing in the MJHL is all about, and the platform to showcase themselves to coaches and scouts from all levels of hockey,” explained MJHL Commissioner, Kevin Saurette.

 

Along with scouts and coaches from the MJHL scouts from leagues like the WHL, USHL, NCAA, U Sports and the NHL are expected to make attendance in person or virtually.

 

Players will receive training both on and off the ice by experienced professionals with everything from practice sessions to modified games, mental skills and more.
