Holiday Schedules

As the holidays approach, be sure to check the schedules of businesses and facilities throughout the remainder of the year. The Kelsey Recreation and Wellness Centre posted their schedule for next week. All facilities will be closed on December 25th and 26th, then resume regular programming until New Year's weekend.

 

The Roy H Johnston Will also be closed on Thursday, December 28th, and the Winton Pool will be closed on Sunday, December 31st.

Blizzard End 2023 on a Roll

The Blizzard ended 2023 with another big win last night. The Team was in Waywayseecappo as they faced the Wolverines in one final game before the winter break.

 

Quincy Supprien and Adam Belzil scored in the first period and Riley See scored the lone second-period goal before the Wolverines could find their footing.

 

Lucas Perry opened up scoring for the Wolverines early into the third period before Jack Clark scored back-to-back goals only 24 seconds apart in the final minutes of play, tying the game and forcing overtime.

 

The Overtime Shootout lasted 5 attempts before Eric Mork scored the game-winning goal, ending the night 5-4 for the Blizzard.

 

They now head into 2024 carrying a 7-game winning streak while also sitting only 4 points behind the Virden Oil Capitals for first place in the MGEU West Division.

The Spartans Hosted Hapnot Collegiate Last Night

The MBCI Spartans Junior Varsity Basketball teams hosted the Hapnot Kopper Kings and Kweens last night in exhibition action.

 

The Junior Varsity Girls match ended with a 41-23 win for the Kopper Kweens.

 

On the boy's side, The MBCI Spartans Gold team took the win with a final score of 71-38.

OCN Storm Break Losing Streak With A Pair of Wins

The OCN Storm snapped a month-long losing streak over the weekend while they faced the Waywayseecappo Wild.

 

On Saturday the OCN Storm outshot the Wild 59-38. Logan Marr and Drew Peters each scored twice as the Storm took the night 9-3.

 

During Sunday afternoon's game, Logan Grenier kept all 25 shots out of the net as the storm outshot them with 69 shots, Drew Peters scored 4 goals and Nathan Stevens scored two as the OCN Storm took the night with a 15-0 shutout victory.

 

The OCN Storm have now begun their winter break, with their first matchup of 2024 slated for January 6th against the Cross Lake Islanders.

Blizzard Push Closer to Oil Capitals

The Blizzard solidified their spot in the MGEU West Division over the weekend.

 

On Friday, the Blizzard and Waywayseecappo Wolverines had their horns locked with an exciting and quick match-up. Both teams only served two minutes in the penalty box throughout the game, allowing for a relatively smooth 60 minutes of play.

 

Sam Zagari opened up scoring during the first period before Ryan Jossy tied things back up in the final minutes of the period.

 

Early into the second period, Waywayseecappo Wolverines Captain and former Blizzard Assistant Captain Guerin Apperley scored his first goal of the season.

 

After a tie at the end of the second period, the Blizzard pulled ahead with an additional 3 goals, ending the night 6-3 for the Blizzard.

 

Sunday's game told a different story for both teams as the Blizzard faced the Neepawa Titans. Overall, there were 19 penalty calls, 11 of which went to the Blizzard.

 

However, that wasn't enough to slow down the Blizzard, as Sam Zagari scored twice and five other Blizzard each scored to end the night 7-2 against the Titans.

 

The Blizzard are preparing for their last game of 2023 as they face the Waywayseecappo Wolverines again tomorrow in Waywayseecappo.

OCN Storm head to Waywayseecappo

The OCN Storm look to end their losing streak as they head south to face the Waywayseecappo Wild this weekend.

 

Saturday's game will be broadcast live on CJAR as the puck drops at 7:30 PM. Sunday's game which will not be broadcasted, hits the ice at 1:30 PM.

Blizzard Host Wolverines

The Blizzard are on the ice tonight at the Roy H Johnston Arena. Tonight they host the struggling Waywayseecappo Wolverines at 7 PM.

 

The Wolverines have fallen out of playoff contention before the new year, sitting 9 points behind the Neepawa Titans, who sit at 31 points, for the final spot as 2023 comes to a close.

 

Speaking of the Neepawa Titans, they'll be in town on Sunday to face the Blizzard at 7 PM.

 

The Blizzard have a chance at starting the new year in second place in the MGEU West Division as they sit 3 points ahead of the Dauphin Kings, at 36 points so far this season.

 

Tonight's game will be broadcast by CJAR starting at 6:45 pm.

Open Ice This Sunday

The Pas Curling Club will be hosting another open ice day this Sunday above the Roy H Johnston Arena.

 

Anyone with or without curling experience is welcome to attend.

 

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult and you must wear clean indoor shoes to participate.

 

This weekend's session will be the final one of 2023 before it resumes on January 7th, 2024.

Tough Luck Continues For The OCN Storm

It's been a tough month for the OCN Storm as the end of 2023 approaches. The Storm were in Flin Flon facing the PBCN Selects last night in the Whitney Forum.

 

Terrell Martin scored the lone Storm goal as the Selects pulled ahead to an 8-1 victory over the Storm.

 

The team heads to Waywayseecappo this Saturday and Sunday to face the Wild in the final two games of 2023.

OCN Blizzard Ground the Flyers in Overtime

The Blizzard are home after earning all 4 points in their trip down South.

 

Friday's game against the Winkler Flyers was postponed until last night, where after a late start the battle was on.

 

After the Flyers opened up scoring during the first period Sam Zagari scored a goal during the second and third periods that put the Blizzard in a 2-1 lead ahead of the Flyers.

 

Dalton Andrew scored 6 minutes later, forcing overtime and leading to a shootout. During the shootout, Riley See scored the lone goal, earning the Blizzard another 2 points and putting them 3 points ahead of the Dauphin Kings.

 

The Blizzard are back on the ice this weekend as they host the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Friday and the Neepawa Titans on Sunday.

Basketball Tournament This Weekend

The Rotary Club Bill McDonald Memorial Basketball Tournament is just days away.

 

This Friday and Saturday Students from Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute and Oscar Lathlin Collegiate will be competing for the top spot along with 14 other teams.

 

Anyone interested in volunteering to scorekeep for the tournament is asked to contact the school.

Blizzard Face Off in Rescheduled Game

The Blizzard are back south tonight as they get ready for another outer division game. The team heads to Winkler to face the Flyers on their home ice.

 

The last time the two teams met the Blizzard took the win after a 3-2 victory at the Roy H Johnston Arena. The Waywayseecappo Wolverines host the Portage Terriers in the other game on tonight's schedule. 

Blizzard

After Friday's game against the Winkler Flyers was postponed due to road conditions the Blizzard made their way down to the city the following day to face the Winnipeg Freeze.

 

Riley See scored twice and 7 other Blizzard scored as the team walloped the Winnipeg Freeze 9-2 during the game.

 

Last Friday's game has been rescheduled to tomorrow at 7 PM in Winkler.

 

Despite the postponed game, the Blizzard are still in second place in the MGEU West Division, one point ahead of the Dauphin Kings and 8 points behind the division-leading Virden Oil Capitals.

OCN Storm Host Two Games at Home This Weekend

The OCN Storm are home this weekend as they host the Norway House North Stars in a pair of games.

 

The OCN Storm have a chance to tie with the Cross Lake Islanders this weekend and begin climbing up the standings once again.

 

Tomorrow's game hits the ice at 7:30 PM followed by a 1:30 PM puck drop on Sunday.

OCN Blizzard Headed South

The Blizzard are on the road today as they prepare for two games in the southern end of the province. Tonight the Blizzard will be in Winkler as they face the Flyers.

 

On Tuesday, the Blizzard moved to second place in the MGEU West Division after a 3-1 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders.

 

The Winkler Flyers sit in third place in the MGEU East Division, however, they've earned 38 points over 23 games versus the Blizzard's 32 points over 27 games. The puck drops tonight at 7 PM. On Saturday the Blizzard face the Winnipeg Freeze. 

Volleyball Tournament Tonight

There is a volleyball tournament today at UCN.

 

The tournament starts tonight at 6:30 pm and runs until approximately 10 pm. 

 

There is a $4.50 drop-in fee for Community Members but it is free for students.

 

Participants will be put into teams and the winners will be awarded UCN Champs t-shirts.

 

Clean indoor shoes must be worn to participate.

Open Ice Days

The Pas Curling Club invites you to hit the ice and give the sport a shot. Sundays from 2-4 PM The Pas Curling Club will host open ice days with how-to sessions for anyone new to the sport.

 

Participants must have clean indoor shoes and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. 

 

Open Ice days will be held this Sunday, December 10th, and the 17th, and then again on January 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th.

 

Blizzard Pass The Kings

The Blizzard are back in second place in the MGEU West division after a win against the Swan Valley Stampeders last night.

 

Riley See opened up scoring late into the first period in what was likely one of the quicker games this season.

 

Over all only three penalties were served during the 60 minutes of play, two of them, one of which includes a major slashing penalty were served by the Swan Valley Stampeders during the second period.

 

During the third period, Riley scored again to break off a 1-all tie and Quincy Supprien scored in the final two minutes to end the night 3-1 for the Blizzard.

 

The team now sits second in the MGEU West Division at 32 points after the Dauphin Kings fell 2-1 against the Virden Oil Capitals last night.

 

The Blizzard are preparing for a two-day road trip in which they face the Winkler Flyers on Friday and the Winnipeg Freeze on Saturday.

Blizzard Back in The Race For Second

The Blizzard earned two of the four possible points over the weekend.

 

After a 4-1 loss to the Selkirk Steelers on Friday The Blizzard headed to Virden to face the MGEU West division leaders again.

 

Marlen Edwards, who scored the lone Blizzard goal against the Steelers, also scored the lone Blizzard goal of the night against the Oil Capitals during the second period. Combined with an impressive effort from Tomas Anderson between the pipes stopping 54 of the 55 shots on goal the game was headed into overtime. Sebastian Hamming and Ashton Gallagher both scored during a shootout as the night wrapped up 2-1 for the Blizzard.

 

The Battle for second place in the MGEU West Division continues as the Blizzard are once again one point behind the Dauphin Kings at 30 points this season. The Blizzard can pull one point ahead of the Kings as they head to Swan River to face the Stampeders tomorrow at 7 PM.

OCN Storm Fall to The Flames

another tough break for the OCN Storm as they fell to the NCN Flames over the weekend.

 

After ending the first 40 minutes of play with a 4-goal tie The NCN Flames pushed ahead in the third period. Chase McLeod scored in the final two minutes narrowing the gap to a 5-4 game.

 

Unfortunately for the Storm, Albert Sinclair Jr. scored less than a minute later, ending the night 6-4 for the Flames.


The OCN Storm hit the ice again this Saturday at 7:30 PM at the GLMC.

The OCN Storm Are Back on The Ice This Weekend

The OCN Storm get ready to face off against the NCN Flames tomorrow in one of three Saturday night games in the KJHL.

 

Also tomorrow the PBCN Selects face the Cross Lake Islanders and the Peguis Juniors head to Waywayseecappo to face the Wild. Tomorrows storm game will be broadcasted live starting at 7:30 on 102.9 CJAR.

Blizzard Games This Weekend

The Blizzard are on the ice tonight as they host the Selkirk Steelers at the Roy H Johnston Arena.

 

After tonights game the Blizzard prepare for a quick road trip to Virden on Sunday to face the division leading Oil Capitals.

 

Tonight's game hits the ice at 7PM with your pre game show starting at 6:45 here on 102.9 CJAR.

Connor Dewar Scored Big

Connor Dewar scored a community first last night against the Nashville Predators. Dewar recorded his first hat trick in the NHL, helping to propel the Minnesota Wild to a 6-1 victory over the Nashville Predators last night.

 

From The Pas, Dewar played with the Parkland Rangers U18 AAA team in Dauphin, followed by the Everett Silvertips of the WHL in 2015. Dewar then joined the Iowa Wild in 2019 and eventually the Minnesota Wild in 2021.
