Outdoor Rinks Open for use Just in Time for the Holidays

The Manitoba government has loosened their Covid-19 restrictions allowing for the use of outdoor skating rinks!

 

The rink behind the Kelsey Rec and Wellness Centre has been flooded and is ready for use.

 

Patrons are welcome to use the rink any hour of the day or night as long as social distancing measures can be followed and you can brave the cold!

Clearwater Lake Ski Trails Open

The cross country ski trails around Clearwater Lake are up and running this holiday season! The Clearwater Lake Outdoor Club maintains aproximately 15 km of trails, visitors are allowed to use snowshoes or hike on these trails as well.

Parking is available at Pelican Point trailhead with limited parking at the chalet gate. The chalet is currently unavailable as needed renovations are underway.

 

NHL Season Kicks Off Next Month

The N-H-L will begin a new season next month. The league and its players agreed to a 56-game season beginning on the 13th of January.

 

The season will feature an all-Canadian division, but it remains to be seen if all Canadian teams will be able to play in their home cities.

WHL Postpones 2021 Season

The Western Hockey League is pushing back the start of its season indefinitely due to uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The league announced last night it is not in a position to start the season as planned on January 8th due to current public health restrictions across Western Canada.

 

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League was the only one of the three Canadian major junior leagues to open but put the season on hold at the end of November.

 

The Ontario Hockey League plans to begin its season in early February.

Manitoba Summer Games Canceled

Sport Manitoba and the Dauphin Host Society have cancelled the 2021 Manitoba Summer Games which were supposed to take place in July of 2021.

 

Earlier this year they made the decision to postpone the games til July but with the recent increase of cases of Covid 19, the Provincial Sport Organizations decided this was best.

 

Sport Manitoba will now work with all the game partners to prepare for a new games date.Sport Manitoba, the Dauphin Host Society and the City Of Dauphin made the decision based on the safety of Manitobans and to help reduce the spread of Covid 19.

 

The City of Dauphin will now host the 2024 Manitoba Games sponsored by Manitoba Hydro in the summer of 2024.

Manitoba Receives Hockey Equipment for Minor Hockey

Hockey Manitoba has received 470 sets of donated hockey equipment through the NHL/NHLPA/Hockey Canada/Bauer Hockey Equipment Relief Program.

 

12 Minor Hockey Associations, three social organizations and two Indigenous groups have received new equipment including The Pas Huskies.

 

The hockey equipment relief program includes 7,000 sets of equipment donated across Canada, costing around two million dollars.

Changes Coming To Manitoba Curling

Covid 19 continues to rock the sports world, and curling in Manitoba is now going to have quite a different look if the sport is able to get back on the ice.

 

Curling Manitoba issued a press release yesterday about competitions for the rest of the year.

 

All competitions are now postponed for the rest of the year including the under 18 Provincial Competition which was supposed to take place over the Christmas break.

 

Curl Manitoba will continue to work Curling Canada on hosting a National competition for the Scotties, Brier and Mixed Doubles in the new year.

 

Regional qualifiers will take place in Selkirk between Feb 2nd to the 7th but the field will be cut down to 8 teams for the women and 16 for the men. The winner from both these events will represent Manitoba at the National event in Calgary .

 

Locally, The Pas Curling Club has not been able to get their season started. Currently there is no ice at TPCC and with red level restrictions in place a shortened season may not be possible.

Hockey Manitoba Cancel's Provincials

Due to the current ongoing Covid 19 situation, Hockey Manitoba has made the decision to cancel all 2021 Manitoba Provincials.

 

The decision to cancel all Provincial Championships  has been made with the safety of all it's members and the different communities.

 

Each year 25 communities across the province host Provincial tournaments as approximately 250 teams and 4,000 players  compete for a chance to win a Provincial Championship.

 

There has been no word if the host cities from 2021 will be awarded to host in 2022.
