The OCN Storm Are Back After a Road Trip to Peguis

The OCN Storm are home after facing their leader board rivals the Peguis Juniors for the first time this year.

 

On Saturday Domi Leask earned a hat trick but it wasn't enough as the Peguis Juniors pulled ahead 10-7 against the Storm.

 

On Sunday KJHL points leader Drew Peters scored 4 goals as the Peguis Juniors kept pace until the end, wrapping up regular play at 7 goals for both teams. Dwayne McKenzie scored his second goal of the night in overtime, earning the Storm two points over the weekend.

 

The Storm have a bit of a break before hitting the ice again November 8th in Flin Flon.

Blizzard keep 3 Points at Home

The Blizzard kept 3 of the 4 points possible at home over the weekend. On Friday the Blizzard welcomed the Terriers to the Roy H Johnston Arena with a victory on home ice.

 

Slade Stanick opened up scoring in the second period for the Terriers until Marlen Edwards tied up the game 5 minutes later during a 4 on 3 power play for the Blizzard.

 

During the third period Lucas De La Salle scored 7 minutes in, followed by Sebastian Hamming scoring a goal with less than a minute to go as the night wrapped up 3-1.

 

On Saturday The Blizzard were ahead until the final minutes of the third. After a goal from Kieran Cooke in the first and Reeve Sukut early in the third it seemed victory was in sight for the team.

 

However after back to back penalties late into the period Nolan Chastko scored two goals for the Oil capitals, forcing an overtime.

 

The Virden Oil Capitals outscored the Blizzard 2-0 during a shootout to take the night from the Blizzard.

 

This Friday and Saturday the Blizzard host the Neepawa Titans at 7PM.

MBCI Spartans Volleyball Today and Tomorrow

The MBCI Spartans Volleyball teams are heading all over Manitoba this weekend.

 

The Junior Varsity Boys Volleyball team is in Roblin Today and tomorrow facing teams from Warren, Goose Lake and Major Pratt.

 

The Junior Varsity Girls team is hosting a tournament at MBCI this afternoon and tomorrow.

 

And the Senior Varsity Boys team is in Ste. Rose for 4 games.

 

Yesterday the Junior Varsity girls hosted Moose Lake for exhibition games. Scores were 23-25, 25-10, 25-21, and 15-11.

OCN Storm Tiebreaker Weekend

The OCN Storm are headed to Peguis this weekend to break the tie.

 

Both the Storm and the Juniors are at 10 points early in the season however the Storm have a game in hand.

 

They hit the ice tomorrow at 7:30 PM and 1:30 on Sunday. Sundays game will be broadcasted live right here on 102.9 CJAR.

Blizzard Back on Home Ice This Weekend

The Blizzard are back on the ice in the Roy H Johnston Arena for a pair of games starting tonight.

 

They Host the Portage Terriers tonight, Both teams sit at 4th in their divisions, however the Terriers have 17 points versus the Blizzards 11.

 

Tomorrow the Blizzard host the Virden Oil Capitals.

 

Both games hit the ice at 7PM with your pre game show starting at 6:45PM right here on 102.9 CJAR.

OCN Storm Dealt First Loss of The Season

All good things must come to an end. After going 5 games undefeated in the regular season the OCN Storm's streak was brought to an end by the Norway House North Stars.

 

The Norway House North Stars kept the pressure on in the first 40 minutes of play, scoring two goals in the first period while Drew Peters scored the lone Storm goal of the period.

 

The North Stars scored an aditional 4 goals during the second period and Dwayn McKenzie scored his first of the night heading into the third period with a 6-2 lead for the North Stars.

 

During the third period a fire must have been ignited under the storm as Dwayne McKenzie scored an impressive 4 goals practically back to back and Drew Peters scored once, catching up to 8-7 for the North Stars in the final minutes of play.  The close game would be short lived however as the North Stars got an aditional two into the net to wrap up the night the night 10-7 for the North Stars.

 

Despite the loss the Storm still remain on top of the standings at 10 points this season. The Storm get a brief break before heading to Peguis to face the Juniors on Saturday and Sunday. You can catch Sundays early afternoon game live at 1:30 right here on 102.9 CJAR

MBCI Spartans Played Hard Last Night

The MBCI Spartans Senior Varsity Volleyball teams were up in Flin Flon Yesterday for exhibition games against the Hapnot Kopper Kings and Queens.

 

Both teams fought hard, with the Senior Varsity Boys winning one set 25-19. Notable players include Maddox Manych, Marrog Bangogan, Jaxen Muswagon, and Nathan LeSann.

 

Blizzard Split a 4 Game Road Trip

The Blizzard are home after splitting their 4 game road trip yesterday.

 

Former Blizzard and current Niverville Nighthawks captain Brett Tataryn earned a hat trick after scoring 3 of the 4 goals scored through the game.

 

Despite yesterday's loss the Blizzard return home with 4 points after beating out the Selkirk Steelers and Steinbach Pistons during the road trip.

 

The team gets a brief breather before hitting the ice at the Roy H Johnston Arena this Friday against the Portage Terriers and Saturday against the Virden Oil Capitals.

Blizzard Topple Pistons in Overtime

The Blizzard are back on the ice today after beating out the league leaders in overtime. A rematch from their previous matchup the Blizzard took the Steinbach Pistons into overtime to start the MJHL Showcase.

 

Currently the Pistons sit on top of the league at 19 points over 12 games with the undefeated Winkler Flyers just behind at 18 points over 9 games.

 

Half way through the overtime period Blizzard Sebastian Hamming scored the overtime goal, pushing the Blizzard to a 4-3 win over the Pistons.

 

This afternoon the Blizzard are on the ice against the Niverville Nighthawks at 4pm to wrap up the MJHL showcase before returning home.

MBCI Spartans SV Volleyball

The MBCI Spartans Senior Varsity Volleyball Team are headed to Flin Flon Tomorrow in an exhibition game against the Hapnot Kopper Kings. Players hit the court at 7PM.

Blizzard Split The Weekend

The Blizzard are back on the ice today after splitting the weekend in the southern end of the province.

 

Despite serving 6 penalties versus the Steelers one the team started the weekend with win over the Selkirk Steelers. Ashton Gallagher scored his first two goals as a Blizzard helping lead them to a 5-2 win.

 

On Saturday Keenan McNeill scored the lone Blizzard goal as the Flyers pulled ahead 3-1.

 

Today is the start of the MJHL Showcase and the Blizzard have quite the battle ahead of them. Tonight they face the league leading Steinbach Pistons, a team they took into overtime just last week.

 

Tomorrow they face the Niverville Nighthawks in the afternoon before returning home and preparing for a double home stand this weekend.

 

On Friday they host the Portage Terriers and on Saturday the Virden Oil Capitals will be in town.

OCN Storm Games Postponed

This Weekends OCN Storm games against the Norway House North Stars have been postponed until a later date.

 

The News comes as an outbreak of Covid-19 has worked it's way through the North Stars. So far 9 players have tested positive for the virus.

 

As of writing a make up date has not been announced.

The Blizzard Have Plenty of Ice Time Coming Up

The Blizzard are preparing for a week full of hockey starting tomorrow. The team heads to Selkirk to kick of a 5 day, 4 game road trip that will offer them a brief break in between games.

 

After Fridays game the team heads to Winkler to face the Flyers on Saturday before taking Sunday off to rest ahead of the MJHL showcase.

 

During this year's showcase the team faces off against the Steinbach Pistons on Monday followed by the Niverville Nighthawks Tuesday afternoon.

Drew Peters and the OCN Storm Continue to Excel

Drew Peters remains in the spotlight in the KJHL after another exciting weekend for the OCN Storm.

 

On Saturday Peters scored two during regular play, followed by the overtime goal to push the Storm into a 7-6 win against the Cross Lake Islanders.

 

During Sundays game Drew Peters scored another hat trick, ending the weekend with 13 goals over 5 games this season. Dwayne McKenzie also scored a hat trick that game, helping lead the team to a 12-1 victory over the Cross Lake Islanders.

 

The OCN Storm are also now the leagues loan undefeated team as the Peguis Juniors suffered back to back losses.

 

The Storm are home this weekend as they host the Norway House North Stars Saturday and Sunday.

Blizzard Earn 3 Points at Home

The Blizzard had quite the weekend fighting one of the league's top teams and blowing past another.

 

It was a three point weekend for the Blizzard that started with a long game against the Steinbach Pistons. The Pistons must have been slapping the cylinders that night after serving 16 minutes across 8 players in the penalty box versus the Blizzards 6 minutes.

 

Keenan McNeil helped force the game into what would be a scoreless overtime period after scoring two of the three goals during regular play, the other of which was scored by Miguel Bouvier early in the third period, tying the game at 3 all before an overtime shootout resulted in a Pistons win.

 

On Saturday the Blizzard earned their second shutout of the season only a week after earning their first with a 4-0 win against the Selkirk Steelers.

 

Riley See and Sam Zagari each scored during the first while Keenan McNeil scored another two goals only two minutes apart in the third to end the weekend on a high for the Blizzard.

 

The team heads to Selkirk for round two on Friday.

Stanley is Coming to Town Tomorrow

The Cup is coming to town! Tomorrow the Kelsey Recreation and Wellness Centre will be hosting Vaughn Karpan and the Stanley Cup.

 

The cup will start its tour of the community in the OCN at 4:15 PM, followed by a photo op for all of the hockey organizations from The Pas Minor Hockey, OCN Storm, Blizzard and more.

 

Your opportunity to get that selfie by the cup starts at 6:45 until 8:30 PM at the Wellness Centre.

OCN Storm Headed For Cross Lake

The OCN Storm are on the road this weekend to face the Cross Lake Islanders in back to back games. So far the Storm remain undefeated after 3 games this season hoisting them to second place in the league.

 

The Cross Lake Islanders on the other hand are on the hunt for their first win of the season still.

 

Puck drops at 7:30 PM tomorrow, followed by an early afternoon game at 1:30 PM on Sunday.

Back To Back Home Games This Weekend

The Blizzard host one of the top teams in the MJHL tonight at the Roy H Johnston Arena.

 

Tonight the puck drops as the Blizzard face off against the Steinbach Pistons. The Blizzard have a tough battle ahead of them as they go up against The Pistons who have earned 10 points already this season. Puck drops tonight at 7PM.

 

After tonight's game The Blizzard face off against the Selkirk Steelers tomorrow night at 7PM. The Two teams are tied currently at 4 points each early in the season.

 

Both Fridays and Saturdays game will be broadcasted live on 102.9 CJAR starting at 6:45 PM with your pre game show.

Kelsey Recreation and Wellness Centre Introduce New Program For Goalies

A program has now opened registration to help future goalies keep the puck out of the net.

 

The Kelsey Recreation and Wellness Centre has introduced a Crease Management course set to take place from October 29th to April 6th.

 

The cost of the course is $225 and is for youth aged 7 to 17.

 

Spots are limited so register quickly by heading over to the Wellness Centre.

Blizzard Back Home After 2-1 Trip to Winnipeg

The Blizzard have time to regroup after a trip to Winnipeg over the long weekend.

 

Despite losses to the Portage Terriers and Winnipeg Blues the team had an impressive win against the Niverville Nighthawks.

 

The team earned their first shutout victory of the regular season with an impressive 5-0 win to start the weekend.

 

They meet the Steinbach Pistons this Friday at the Roy H Johnston Arena.

The Blizzard Begin a 3 Game Road Trip Down South

The Blizzard are on the road for a 3 game stand all over southern Manitoba this weekend.

 

At 7PM tonight The Blizzard are in Niverville to face the Nighthawks.

 

Tomorrow they're in Winnipeg to face the Blues for the first time this season.

 

They head to Portage La Prairie on Sunday to wrap up the weekend against the Terriers.

The Pas Curling Club AGM

The Pas Curling Club will be hosting their registration and Annual General Meeting next Wednesday, October 11at 7 pm.

 

The meeting takes place upstairs at the rink above the Roy H Johnston Arena and new members are welcome.

 

Currently the curling club is looking for volunteers for multiple board positions for the year.
