The 12th Annual Whitehead Volleyball Tournament took place over the weekend and it was another great year.

This year 6 teams participated in round robin action and fun in the smoky sun from start to finish.

Team Maureen Brown earned third place, Team Bobbi Faye Sinclair earned second and Team Tricia Dick came out on top, earning first place in the tournament.

The OCN Blizzard have hired Paul-Antoine Deslauriers as Assistant Coach ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Paul-Antoine has played for leagues in Canada, USA, France and most recently Sweden.

He also has a bachelor's degree in Sports Psychology and is working on a masters degree in human kinetics.

The Royal Canadian Legion is hosting a Bocce Ball tournament next month! Saturday August 12th at 10 AM teams of 2 can get ready for a day of fun outside the Roy H Johnston Arena.

There will be food and a beer garden during the event.

Registration deadline is August 9th and costs $40 per team. Registration and payment can be done at the Royal Canadian Legions bar Tuesday through Saturday during regular hours.

The Pas and OCN Chamber of Commerce fun golf tournament is tomorrow!

Starting at 2PM there will be different competitions and prizes at many of the holes, plus prizes for the best hat, most outrageous hat and funniest hat worn!

Registration cost is $100 for chamber members and $125 for non-chamber members. If a chamber member registers your team of four every member takes advantage of the $25 discount.

The OCN Blizzards new head coach Eric Labrosse has already hit the ground running for the team.

The Blizzard have hired Ryan Goethals as Director of Player Personnel and Mark Patton as Head Scout.

Both Ryan and Mark have an extensive history in Junior hockey. Ryan has been with the La Ronge Ice Wolves of the SJHL and Spokane Chiefs of the WHL over the last few years. Mark served with the Flin Flon Bombers for the 2019-2020 and 2021-2022  seasons.

The OCN Blizzard need your help! With the upcoming season only months away the OCN Blizzard are looking for Billet Families to help give the players a place to stay during the season.

As a billet family your responsibilities include beingmentor, friend, counselor, and a good role model for the player.

Providing a clean, smoke free family oriented environment with a private bedroom for the player. 

Providing nutritious meals and snacks. 

The benifits of being a billet family include one season ticket per household, Remuneration for meals, invitations to various team events and potentially long lasting relationships with players and their families.

Sunday July 23rd racers can hit the trails at the Clearwater lake Half Marathon!

Racing kits will be available to pick up off of airport road this Sunday July 16th.

Runners can register for either solo or team events and run or walk 1 to 21 kilometers.

The OCN Blizzard will be hosting their annual Identification Camp later this month. The camp will take place at Canlan Arena in Winnipeg on July 23rd and 24th.

All players born between 2003-2007 are welcome to attend. The Registration Deadline is July 20th and can be done by filling out the form available here and emailing it to ocnblizzard.camps@hotmail.com.

Cost is $175 per player and guarantees two hours of ice time per day and a dry-land session.

The OCN Blizzard have hired Eric Labrosse as the teams new Head Coach and General Manager ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Labrosse has a wide variety of experience that started in 2015. Working with teams in France2 and Usports leagues, and most recently serving as the Assistant Coach for the Moncton Wildcats in the QMJHL.

Registration for Swim for Life lessons is now open ahead of the Winton pools re-opening on July 17th.

Sessions will be available for various levels starting as early as July 17th and running until the end of August.

Participants can take part twice a day during the remainder of July during sessions 1-3 or once a day beginning August 8th for sessions 4 or 5.

The OCN Storm are looking for you!

September 8th-10th the OCN Storm will be hosting tryouts ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Registration begins just prior to the first day of tryouts September 8th at 6PM in the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre. Cost to register for tryouts is $100 due at the time of registration.

OCN Blizzard alumni former team captain Riley Zimmerman is advancing to the U-Sports level.

Zimmerman spent all 4 years of his Junior A career with the OCN Blizzard, Captaining the team during their most successful season in recent years.

He ended last season with 27 goals and 32 assists during the regular season.

U Sports is the highest level of university hockey within Canada.

Zimmerman will be staying home in Winnipeg after signing with the University of Manitoba.

As the NHL's free agency opened Cross Lakes very own Brady Keeper is moving out east.

The OCN Blizzard alumni has signed a 1 year two way deal with the Montreal Canadiens.

Spending much of the past 3 seasons at the AHL level keeper broke his leg blocking a shot in practice shortly after being traded to the Vancouver Canucks.

Brady's contract is worth $775,000 US.
