MJHL Action Last Night

The Blizzard were off last night however four teams still battled it out on the ice.

 

The Winkler Flyers shut out the Niverville Nighthawks 2-0 last night.  The Flyers now sit at 35 points in the MGEU East division, tying them for points with the Portage Terriers, however the Flyers have 5 games in hand over the Terriers.

 

Also last night the Neepawa Titans overcame the MGEU West leading Virden Oil Capitals in overtime. Hayden Stocks scored the overtime goal as the Titans ended the night 4-3 and now sit 3 points behind The Blizzard at 25 points so far this season.

MBCI Basketball Tryouts

Basketball Tryouts continue with the final day today at MBCI. Students looking to join the teams can head to the MBCI gym from 5:30-7:30 this evening.

Blizzard Fall To The Kings

The Blizzard held their ground against the Dauphin Kings until the final minutes last night. After a scoreless first period, Erik Mork scored the first goal of the game which was followed by a goal from Anthony Bax of the Dauphin Kings 10 minutes later in the second period.

 

Both teams held out for the first half of the third period until the minutes started to wear and Anothny Bax scored his second of the night, followed by another Dauphin goal from Cayden Glover, ending the night 3-1 for the Kings.

 

The Blizzard are on the ice again this Friday as they host the Selkirk Steelers at 7 PM at the Roy H Johnston Arena. CJAR Will be broadcasting that game starting at 6:45 with your pre-game show.

The Pas Huskies Teams Were Busy Over The Weekend.

The Wescanna Inn U13 Hockey Tournament took place at the Roy H Johnston Arena over the weekend.

 

In the A1 Division, the Thompson King Miners won gold, The Pas Huskies won silver and the U13 OCN Storm earned bronze.

 

In the A Division, The Pas Huskies earned gold as they faced off against the Thompson King Miners with a shutout 4-0 victory. The U13 Flin Flon Bombers earned bronze in the tournament.

 

Further South in Dauphin, the U9 Huskies earned Bronze in their tournament.

OCN Storm Have a Tough Start After Two Week Break

After nearly Two weeks off The OCN Storm couldn't pick up a win against the Peguis Juniors. On Saturday, the Storm fell 10-4 as the Juniors kept the pressure on throughout all three periods.

 

On Sunday, after the Peguis Juniors scored four goals during the first period the OCN Storm started fighting back. Drew Peters scored three and Domi Leask scored two as the OCN Storm fought back to a 9-8 lead for the Peguis Juniors.

 

Unfortunately a slew footing penalty for Leask in the final 11 seconds of play put the play back into the OCN Storms zone and ended any chance at tying the game. The OCN Storm currently sit second last in the KJHL with 8 points. However, the team has only played 12 games compared to the league-leading NCN Flames who have played 17 games so far this season.

Blizzard Earn a Chance at Second Place in the West Division

The Blizzard earned four points over the weekend and solidified their spot in the current standings.

 

On Saturday Ethan Bibeau scored his first goal as a blizzard and Adam Belzil scored during the first and third period, ending the night 3-2 against Guerin Apperley and the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

 

On Sunday the Blizzard were headed to Virden to face the top team in the MGEU West Division. Adam Belzil opened up scoring late into the first period before the Virden Oil Capitals answered with a tripping penalty only 17 seconds later.

 

After a scoreless second period for both teams, another Virden tripping penalty during the third period allowed Sam Zagari to get one past Eric Reid halfway through the period. Nolan Chastko scored the lone Virden goal 5 minutes later before the Blizzard wrapped up the night 2-1.

 

The Blizzard sit in third place in the MGEU West Division, one point behind the second-place Dauphin Kings and 5 points ahead of the Neepawa Titans. A battle for second place isn't far off either, as the Blizzard are headed to Dauphin to face the Kings on Tuesday.

OCN Storm Shuffle Staff Roster

The OCN Storm have made four big changes to their staff roster.

 

Late last night The OCN Storm Announced the signing of Nelson Cote from Pine Creek First Nation as the team's new General Manager.

 

Along with Nelson, the team announced former Blizzard Ethan Constant as head coach.

 

Alan Burrell, a former head coach with The Pas Minor Hockey Association joins the Storm as the team's new assistant coach.

 

Ryan Shultz has been promoted to marketing and media manager,  Ryan will be joining CJAR to talk about the changes this Friday at 2:15 PM.

U13 Female Huskies Take Gold

The U13 Female Huskies team took gold over the weekend!

 

The girls won 3-1 over the Warman Bearcats with two goals from local Mia Leaske, one of which was assisted by Isabel Lehmann, and another from Elynn Smith of Flin Flon.

 

It is the first time a female team from the community has placed in a tournament in over a decade.

 

Captain Mike Conaty collected the trophy for the team.

Blizzard Come up Short Against Pistons

The Blizzard fell to the Steinbach Pistons over the weekend.

 

Brett Ward scored the lone Blizzard goal in the first period and despite a tie that would last 40 minutes of play the Steinbach Pistons pulled ahead in the third period and ended the night 3-1.

 

The Blizzard are back on the ice this Wednesday as they begin a 4 game road trip that starts against the Swan Valley Stampeders.

The Blizzard Hit the Ice Again This Weekend

The Blizzard face off against one of the top teams in the MJHL tomorrow.

 

The Blizzard host the league leading Steinbach Pistons at the Roy H Johnston Arena at 7PM. The Pistons currently lead the league with 31 points over 18 games this season. However currently their series with the Blizzard is tied at one win each after the Blizzard won 4-3 in overtime during the MJHL showcase last month.

 

CJAR will be broadcasting tomorrow's game beginning at 6:45 with your pre-game show.

MBCI Needs Your Help

MBCI is looking for adult volunteers ahead of the the JV Boys Provincial Volleyball Championship being held at MBCI and UCN next week.

 

The Tournament takes place from November 23rd-25th with 30 Volleyball matches scheduled throughout the three day event. The school is aiming to have one adult at each Scorekeeping table along with student volunteers to help insure a smooth tournament.

OCN Storm Fall to The Flames

A tough weekend for the OCN Storm as they fell to third place in the standings after a matchup with the NCN Flames.

 

With goals from Logan Marr, Dwayne Mackenzie and another two from Drew Peters the first period ended with an eventful 4-3 lead for the Storm.

 

Unfortunately for the team a series of penalties ranging from head contact to interference allowed the flames to pull ahead 6-4 against the Storm in the second period before a scoreless third period ended the night.

 

The OCN Storm now sit third in the league at 14 points so far this season, 4 points behind the league leading Peguis Juniors. They get just shy of 2 weeks to regroup before facing the Juniors November 25th and 26th.

Blizzard Topple One of The Top Teams and Get Revenge Against Another.

The Blizzard now sit in third place in the MGEU  West Division after a successful weekend on the ice.

 

On Saturday The Winkler Flyers were in town, making for an exciting night against one of the league's top teams.

 

Adam Belzil scored once during the first period followed by a goal from Miguel Bouvier during the second as the game headed into the final 20 with a 2-0 lead for the Blizzard.

 

During the third period Miguel Bouvier opened up scoring once again as the Flyers couldn't keep their team out of the penalty box. The visiting Flyers fought back with a pair of goals but it wasn't enough as the Blizzard took the night 3-2 on home ice.

 

On Sunday the Swan Valley Stampeders were back and The Blizzard fought hard to even the score after their previous meeting. Ashton Gallagher scored the lone first period goal before a nearly scoreless second period.

 

The fate of the game was decided during the final two minutes of the second period as Landon Gulutzan evened the scoring for a brief moment. A high sticking penalty for Aiden Taylor gave the Blizzard an edge, allowing Keenan McNeil to dump the tiebreaking goal with only 2 seconds left of the second period.

 

Both teams fought hard defensively during the final period as the puck wouldn't see a net for the rest of the game, wrapping up the night 2-1 for the Blizzard.

MBCI Spartans Headed To Provincials

the Zone 11 Junior Varsity Volleyball Championships took place over the weekend.

 

The MBCI Spartains Junior Varsity Girls team earned second place against the Hapnot Kopper Queens with a score of 13-25 and 17-25. The girls team will be applying for a wildcard sport for a chance to go to provincials later this month.

 

MBCI hosted the zone 11 Junior Varsity Boys Championship over the weekend. The MBCI Spartans emerged undefeated, earning them the zone 11 banner and a spot in the provincial championship which will be held at MBCI and UCN later this month.

 

The Senior Varsity Volleyball teams are preparing for their shot at provincials this weekend in Flin Flon and Cranberry Portage.

OCN Blizzard Games This Weekend

The Blizzard have the day to prepare for two game this weekend.

 

Tomorrow the Blizzard host the nearly undefeated Winkler Flyers. The Flyers are riding a three game winning streak after being handed their only two losses so far this season, one against the Steinbach Pistons in regulation, and the other against the Dauphin Kings in an overtime shootout.

 

On Sunday the Blizzard have a chance at redemption as they host the Swan Valley Stampeders. Both games start at 7 PM and will be broadcasted live here on CJAR.

OCN Storm Game Tonight

The OCN Storm are on the ice tonight as they host the NCN Flames in a tiebreaker matchup.

 

Both teams sit at 14 points over 9 games this season, 3 points behind the league leading Peguis Juniors. Puck drops at 7:30 tonight in the GLMC.

Zone 11 Junior Varsity Volleyball Tournaments This Weekend

There are two Junior Varsity Volleyball tournaments in the North this weekend. The Zone 11 JV Girls A/AA Volleyball Championship Tournament takes place today and tomorrow at the Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Education Resource Centre in Norway House.

 

Teams from both Oscar Lathlin Collegiate and Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute will compete in round robin action through this afternoon before competing in the playoffs tomorrow.

 

The Junior Varsity Boys teams are playing their round robin games in a similar competition at MBCI starting this afternoon.

OCN Storm Tied for Second in the KJHL

Drew Peters' hat collection continued to grow as the OCN Storm picked up another win last night.

 

The PBCN Selects opened up scoring with the lone first period goal in the Whitney Forum with a goal from Micah Emiktowt.

 

The OCN Storm dominated the second period, pushing ahead with Drew Peters and Milan Constant both scoring their first goals of the night late into the second period and ending 40 minutes of play at 2-1 for the Storm.

 

A power play early into the third period allowed Milan to score his second of the night before Micah and Harlan Jacobson each scored, tying the game at 3-3 with 6 minutes to go.

 

The tie was short lived however as Waylon Munroe Jr. dumped on into the selects net only 13 seconds later, pushing the Storm ahead. The Selects jumped the gun on trying to force a 6 on 5 in the final minutes, earning them a penalty for too many men and allowing Drew Peters to score yet again.

 

He wasn't done there however, scoring his third goal of the night to earn a hat trick with only one second left on the clock and ending the night 6-3 for the Storm.

 

There's only one more game on the slate for them this week as they host the NCN Flames on Friday at 7:30pm.

 

Both teams have earned 14 points this season, tying them for second place in the KJHL while the Peguis Juniors sit at first at 17 points.

Blizzard Fall 5-2

A surprising defeat last night for the Blizzard. Despite a tie game after 40 minutes of play and an early goal by Miguel Bouvier only seconds into the third period the Swan Valley Stampeders fought back in the final 10.

 

Linden Perry tied up the game 9 minutes and 33 seconds into the period before another 3 goals followed from the Stampeders, ending the night 5-2 for Swan Valley.

 

The Blizzard continue their homestand this weekend against the Winkler Flyers on Saturday before getting a shot at a rematch on Sunday against the Swan Valley Stampeders.

OCN Storm Headed North Tomorrow

After a weekend off the OCN Storm are back on the ice tomorrow. The team is heading north to Flin Flon to face the PBCN Selects in the Whitney Forum.

 

Both teams are coming off splits of their previous match ups as the PBCN Selects earned 2 points against the Norway House North Stars over the Weekend.

 

The OCN Storm earned 2 points after a weekend matchup after a loss and a win against the Peguis Juniors on October 28th and 29th.

 

The puck hits the ice tomorrow at 7:30PM.

Another Tuesday Night in the MJHL

The Blizzard are on the ice tonight in another Tuesday night matchup. Tonight the Blizzard host the division trailing Swan Valley Stampeders.

 

The Stampeders have been trampled on so far this year, trailing at 9 points over 18 games this season, putting them in last place in the MGEU West Division and 12th place overall in the MJHL. The puck hits the ice at 7PM.

 

Elsewhere tonight the Dauphin Kings are in Neepawa and the Selkirk Steelers look to gain some momentum in Winnipeg against the Blues.

Blizzard Earn Four at Home

The Blizzard had a successful weekend at home that propelled them in the standings. On Friday after a scoreless first period for both teams Riley See scored midway through the second, opening up scoring for the Blizzard and heading into the third period 1-0. Only 3 minutes into the third period Carter McLeod scored for the Titans during a power play, but the tie was short lived as Keenan Mcneill scored his 6th goal of the season only 39 seconds later. Riley See scored again in the final 2 minutes of play as the Blizzard took the night 3-2 against the Titans.

 

On Saturday the Blizzard not only held their ground, but they kept most of the action in the offensive zone. Eric Mork opened up scoring for the Blizzard and Brett Ward ended the period 2-1 for the Blizzard. Despite a 5 on 3 advantage for the Titans the Blizzard held their ground and kept the puck out of their net for the entirety of the second period. Adam Belzil scored early into the third period and 19 minutes later the game would end 3-1 for the Blizzard.

 

The team earned 4 points over the weekend, pushing them past the Waywayseecappo Wolverines Who lost to the Dauphin Kings 5-3 on Friday followed by a postponed match against the Portage Terriers on Sunday. The Blizzard are back at the Roy H Johnston Arena tomorrow as they face the division trailing Swan Valley Stampeders.

Basketball and Fitness Training Camp Comes To Oscar Lathlin Collegiate

A basketball and fitness training camp is coming to Oscar Lathlin Collegiate next weekend. Zaagi'idiwin Sport Performance will be offering sessions for 13-15 year olds Saturday November 11th from Noon to 2 PM and Sunday November 12th from 10-11 AM.

 

A later session will take place for 16-18 year olds Saturday from 2-4 PM and Sunday from 11 to noon. to register contact Cynthia Young at cynthia.young@opaskwayak.ca

MBCI Students are on the Volleyball Courts Again Today

The MBCI Spartans junior varsity volleyball team is in Flin Flon today for a tournament at Hapnot Collegiate.

 

The schools senior varsity boys and girls volleyball teams are at Neelin Dig for one of the largest tournaments so far this year.

 

The tournament takes place in Brandon and includes 40 girls and 40 boys teams.

Blizzard Host the Titans This Weekend

The Blizzard are preparing for a weekend against their leader board rivals the Neepawa Titans. Both teams are back on the ice after splitting last weekend.

 

The Blizzard ousted the Portage Terriers 3-1 on Saturday before falling to the Virden Oil Capitals in 3-2 in an overtime shootout on Sunday.

 

The Neepawa Titans fell to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 4-2 on Saturday before smoking the Winnipeg Blues on Sunday 11-2.

 

Currently the Blizzard have a one point lead over the Titans at 14 points so far this season.

 

Both of this weekend's games take place at the Roy H Johnston arena with puck drop at 7PM. CJAR will be broadcasting both Friday's and Saturday's games live starting at 6:45.
